Live Translate Voice ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard information when you use the Live Translate Voice mobile application ("App") available on iOS and Android.

By downloading, installing, or using the App, you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this policy, please do not use the App.

2. Information We Collect

We are committed to minimal data collection. We only collect information necessary to provide the real-time translation service:

Voice & Audio Data

  • Audio is captured from your device's microphone only when you actively press the record button
  • Audio is streamed in real time to our speech recognition provider (Soniox) via secure WebSocket connections for transcription and translation
  • Audio is processed transiently — it is not permanently stored on our servers or the servers of our providers after the session ends
  • We do not record, save, or archive any voice conversations

Language Preferences

  • Your selected language pair (Language A and Language B) is saved locally on your device to restore your preferences between sessions
  • This data never leaves your device

Device & Technical Information

  • We may collect basic device information such as operating system version, device model, and app version for crash reporting and compatibility purposes
  • This information is anonymized and cannot be used to personally identify you

What We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not collect your name, email address, or phone number
  • We do not require account creation or login
  • We do not collect location data
  • We do not collect contact lists or calendar data
  • We do not collect browsing history or usage analytics for advertising purposes

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information collected solely to:

  • Provide real-time speech-to-text transcription and translation between your selected languages
  • Generate text-to-speech audio playback of translations with word-by-word highlight synchronization
  • Remember your language preferences between sessions
  • Improve app stability, performance, and fix bugs
  • Ensure compatibility across different devices and operating systems

We do not use your voice data, transcriptions, or translations to:

  • Train or improve AI or machine learning models
  • Build user profiles or behavioral analytics
  • Serve targeted advertisements
  • Share with data brokers or marketing partners

4. Third-Party Services

The App relies on the following third-party services to deliver its core functionality:

  • Soniox — receives streamed audio via secure WebSocket (WSS) connections for real-time speech recognition and translation using the stt-rt-v4 model
  • Google Cloud Text-to-Speech — receives translated text to generate natural-sounding audio playback

These services process data in real time and transiently. We have selected providers with strong privacy practices. We recommend reviewing their respective privacy policies:

5. Data Storage & Retention

  • Voice audio is streamed and processed in real time — it is not stored on any server after the translation session ends
  • Transcription and translation text is displayed on your device during the active session only and is not persisted to any server
  • Language preferences are stored locally on your device using platform-native storage (SharedPreferences on Android, UserDefaults on iOS)
  • We do not maintain databases of user conversations, translation histories, or user accounts
  • Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data from your device

6. Data Security

We take the security of your data seriously and implement industry-standard measures:

  • Audio is transmitted over encrypted WebSocket Secure (WSS) connections
  • All communication with third-party services uses TLS/SSL encryption
  • No sensitive data is stored on our servers — reducing the attack surface to near zero
  • The App does not transmit data over unencrypted channels
  • We regularly review our security practices and update them as needed

While we take reasonable precautions, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information.

7. Cookies & Tracking

The App does not use cookies, web beacons, pixel tags, or similar tracking technologies. We do not track your activity across other apps or websites. We do not participate in cross-app advertising networks.

8. International Data Transfers

Your voice data may be processed by our third-party service providers in data centers located outside your country of residence. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your data to these locations. We ensure that all transfers are conducted securely and in compliance with applicable data protection laws.

9. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at the email below and we will take steps to delete such information promptly.

10. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right to Know — request information about what data we collect and how it is used
  • Right to Deletion — request that we delete any personal data we hold about you
  • Right to Opt Out — opt out of data processing for certain purposes

11. California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You may contact us to exercise your CCPA rights at any time.

12. European Users (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), our legal basis for processing your data is your consent (which you provide by using the App) and our legitimate interest in providing the translation service. You have the right to withdraw consent at any time by ceasing to use the App. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make changes, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this page and post the revised policy within the App or on our website.
